Emergency Observation Unit

 

GEDS operates one of the busiest observation units in the Southeast seeing over 75,000 patients yearly with 40 beds at two campuses.

We utilize over 25 protocols to care for conditions such as:

  • Abdominal Pain

  • Allergic Reaction

  • Asthma/COPD Exacerbation

  • Chest Pain

  • COVID-19

  • Dehydration/Gastroenteritis

  • Renal Colic

  • Syncope

  • TIA

Our observation services helps avoid unnecessary admissions and less than 15% of our patients require transition from observation status to inpatient admission. Our average length of stay has consistently fallen below 20 hours since 2017.
