Charitable Initiatives

  • GEDS is a proud supporter of the James H. Downey Society, a group of active and retired physicians committed to improving the health of our community through philanthropy.

  • Each year, we donate to Oakwood Elementary’s PTO to support young students in our community.

  • Dancing for a Cause is a collaborative event designed to strengthen community support for three local non-profit agencies serving children and families: Alliance for Literacy, Center Point, and Rape Response. GEDS was proud to support a fellow physician, Dr. Betsy Grunch, in 2023!

  • GEDS Physicians, APPs and our families participate in the annual Hall County Chamber Chase 5K to promote wellness!

  • Boy Scouts of America's Northeast Georgia Council holds an annual American Values Dinner to raise money for the local Scouting group and honor three outstanding citizens. Dr Mohak Davé was a proud recipient of the Ralph Cleveland Distinguished Citizen Award in 2023.

  • The 911 Community Bowl is aimed to empower the residents of Tooele County to give back and support local families, foundations, and organizations within the community. We are proud to see one of our resident physicians, Dr. Seth Illu, serve on their Board of Directors.

Scholarships

Dr. Donald Freeman Emergency Medicine Scholarship

  • Dr. Donald Freeman retired from Emergency Medicine in 2021 after a 38-year career in Gainesville/Hall County. He leaves a record of integrity, compassion, and advocacy for the community. This award seeks to identify a candidate who embodies these themes. Dr. Freeman has always been an advocate for women and underrepresented minorities in emergency medicine. An additional focus will be to increase diversity of students enrolling in the practice of medicine.

  • A senior high school student or currently enrolled pre-professional/college student who demonstrates an expressed interest in a future career in emergency medicine - such as nursing, physician, physician assistant, respiratory therapy, EMS, etc. Applicant must be from or attend a school within the following counties: Hall/Barrow/Lumpkin/Habersham/Jackson/White/Gwinnett/Forsyth/Union/Banks/ Dawson/Hart/Rabun/Stephens/Towns.

    Ideally the candidate will be an underrepresented minority in medicine, a woman, or would otherwise demonstrate commitment to increasing diversity in emergency medicine.

  • We ask that you submit a 500-1000 word essay on interest in Emergency Medicine and how you will use your unique attributes to aid the community and contribute to the diversity of emergency medicine.

    The deadline for the 2026 application has passed. This year’s winner will be announced May 15, 2026.

  • Scholarship recipients will receive a one-time award of $1,500.

Carol Burrell Scholarship Fund 

We are proud to provide funding for the establishment of the Carol Burrell Scholarship Fund. This initiative provides financial support to NGHS nurses pursuing doctoral degrees in nursing, healthcare administration, or executive leadership.
We are committed to supporting the next generation of nursing leaders and are grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their professional journey.
